The Healthy Futures Project is a collaboration of partners in
the region. Only by taking a truly regional perspective will
the health issues of the future be effectively understood and
addressed.
The different counties within the region face a variety of
health and human service needs, and varying levels of
resources to address
those needs. While there are certainly many differences between
the nine counties under study, there are likewise numerous
commonalities that exist. The understanding of these
similarities can contribute
to a closer collaboration with regard to the distribution of
services that address health needs.
This project follows on the heels of successful regional
planning processes for land use, transportation, and
economic development.
Initiating Healthy Futures at this time elevates planning and
priority setting for health and social issues to the same level
of importance in the eyes of public and private sector stakeholders
as other regional issues now enjoy. Indeed, due to the timeliness
of this project, there are opportunities to link Healthy Futures
goals, benchmarks, and action plans to the other regional initiatives
addressing land use, transportation, and economic development.
