Recommendations
for Food Stamp Outreach for Sacramento County
Read the full
report, written by Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellow, Anyu
Fang, which focuses on Sacramento County Food Stamp outreach and
"aspires to achieve two purposes: 1) to discuss the general
need of food stamp outreach and possible strategies for such an
effort, and 2) to illuminate through attached maps and tables,
potential geographic and demographic targets in such an effort."
Edible
Landscape Project
In the spring
of 2004 the Sacramento Hunger Coalition in collaboration with
Mercy Housing, Kennedy Estates residents and staff, initiated
the Edible
Landscape project at the Kennedy Estates housing complex.
Edible landscaping, like front yard gardening creates a renewable
source of nutritious affordable food.
The Edible
Landscaping Toolkit is a collections of tools, for individuals,
organizations, or institutions interested in implementing an edible
landscape. The focus of this guide is edible landscaping in low-income
communities for food-security, nutrition, and food production
education, community development, and beautification.
Nutrition
Education in Edible Landscaping - Youth
Lessons
Youth lessons are designed to educate pre-school aged students
on basic nutrition of produce grown on the edible landscape site.
In addition lessons help introduce youth to new fruits and vegetables
and how they are good for your body.
