Emergency Food and Shelter Program The Emergency Food and Shelter Program was established in 1983 by Congress with the intent of supplementing local efforts to provide emergency food and shelter to people in need during economic emergencies. Since its inception, the program has distributed over $2.3 billion to communities across the country. In Phase 24 (FY 2005-2006), the Sacramento Regional Emergency Food and Shelter Board allocated approximately $893,000 to more than 30 non-profit social service agencies in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, Alpine, and El Dorado Counties with grant sizes ranging from $1,980 to $148,950. The EFSP National Board governs the Emergency Food and Shelter Program. The Sacramento Regional Emergency Food and Shelter Board is the Designated Local Board (DLB) comprising of member agencies, as well as a range of service providers, coalitions, advocacy groups, technical assistance providers, planning and community development agencies, and minority and grassroots providers. The Allocations Committee meets twice a year, once to review and score proposals and another to allocate funds. Phase 24 Accomplishments The DLB would like to thank Local Recipient Organizations (LROs) for a job well done in Phase 24! It was a successful year and LROs were able to do so much with so little money. As a rough estimate, with $893,000 spread throughout five counties, LROs provided over 256,629 meals; 43,973 shelter nights; $82,874 in rent/mortgage assistance; and $26,795 in utility assistance. Phase
25 Funding (FY 2006-2007)
